Absences and Holidays

If your child is absent from school, the Department of Education requires a parent/carer to notify the school with a reason to why your child is absent. To notify us of an absence you can either call our absence line on 5428 0899 or send a message through XUNO.
If your child is late to school parents/carers can either sign students in at the front office, supply a signed late note, call our absence line on 5428 0899 or send a message through XUNO. If you are planning a family holiday or your child is competing in a sport at an elite level and requires an extended period of time away from school, you are required to collect an ‘Extended Leave Form’ from the front office. This form will need to be completed and signed by the year level coordinator to approve the absence. All absences require a valid explanation for an absence to be approved.

Naturally, the ideal time for student holiday absence would be during our school term holidays but in the case that it is avoidable, Gisborne Secondary College has an ‘Application for Extended
Student Absence’ form that you are required to fill out prior to your child absence.  This form includes a work programme section and needs to be returned to school and signed by the year level coordinator for approval.
If you have any concerns regarding your child’s absence, please don’t hesitate to call us on 5428 3691.
