Last Wednesday (Day 8) at lunchtime a group of keen readers and myself met together as The Library Club (TLC). It was a fun time of discussion about a few things we love about books and Libraries. Most importantly we talked about things we would like “to do” as a Library Club. On the list was of course, talking about books, looking at the new books, and helping to choose some new books to buy, as well as helping around the Library, with book displays and looking after the books and the shelves.
Library Club is held in the Library Conference Room every Day 8 at lunchtime for students in years 7 and 8. You can bring your lunch. I encourage you to come along and find out what it is all about.
This month’s “Book of the Month” is “Shine Mountain” written by Julie Hunt. She has created a world of characters and settings to draw you in and make you want to keep reading. A perfect fantasy novel for year 7 and 8 students.
Other notable titles, now available in the Library are “Stone Girl” by Eleni Hale, about Sophie’s journey through institutional care. This is definitely for older readers, 15 +.
A great new sci-fi Novel is “Lifel1k3” by Jay Kristoff, an action packed adventure thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world.
Great for those readers who like authors like Matthew Reilly. As this is the first in a trilogy, there will be more to follow.
With the holidays fast approaching, now is a good time to come in and borrow, so that you have plenty to read. There’s nothing better than sitting in front of the fire with a good book and a mug of hot chocolate.
Happy reading everybody – remember “Kids who read succeed”.
