I have just been informed that the situation at our school remains unchanged, and there are no further updates in terms of re-opening the college.
I appreciate your patience and understanding. I will be seeking further information at a regional meeting tomorrow.
Dear Parents, Carers, and Students,
I am writing to inform you that the situation at our school remains unchanged, and there are no further updates following my previous letter sent on August 3rd.
I appreciate your patience and understanding at this difficult time. Be assured that the health and safety of our school community is paramount, and we are strictly following the public health advice of the Department of Health and Human Services to ensure the safety of all staff and students.
I will continue to inform you as soon as any new information comes to hand and when key milestones are reached.
In the interim, I remind you that there is information on the Department of Education and Training (DET) website, and the DET coronavirus (COVID-19) hotline 1800 338 663 is available from 8am to 6pm, seven days a week.
As always you are welcome to reach out to me directly with any questions or concerns.
Gisborne Secondary College
Gisborne Secondary College remains closed tomorrow (Friday, 31 July) as 'deep clean' continues.
Dear Parents, Carers and Students
I have been advised by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) that contact tracing for our school is ongoing, so our school remains closed.
DHHS, as the lead health agency, is continuing to identify and speak to all close contacts of the student who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).
All staff and students are reminded that they are to stay at home until DHHS advises contact tracing is completed.
Any close contacts who have so far been identified by DHHS have been provided with instructions as to what they need to do to care for themselves and their families, whether they need to self-isolate, as well as any necessary further testing.
I will let you know when our school can reopen, as further updates become available.
When our school reopens, it will operate in line with the current advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer for schools in rural and regional Victoria. All students from Years 7 -12 are to attend on site.
Students, staff and parents travelling to the school from metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire must wear a face covering.
For further information, please see the Department of Education and Training (DET) website https://www.education.vic.gov.au/parents/Pages/coronavirus-advice-parents.aspx, or contact the DET coronavirus (COVID-19) hotline on 1800 338 663, Monday to Friday during regular business hours. If you call them, please be clear that you are calling in relation to Gisborne SC and they will provide as much information as they are able.
For school information in your language, call TIS National on 131 450. Please ask them to call the DET coronavirus (COVID-19) hotline on 1800 338 663 and they will help interpret.
For health advice in other languages visit www.dhhs.vic.gov.au.
Thank you for respecting the privacy of our student who tested positive to coronavirus (COVID-19), and for continuing to support each other at this time.
I will continue to keep you informed.
Gisborne Secondary College
To the community:
We are now working with the Barwon Health Contact Tracing team who, on behalf of DHHS, will manage all contact tracing and communication/advice in these matters for us.
We have also commenced planning with the Victorian School Building Authority for an environmental clean of the school.
I don’t have any firm timelines yet, but will keep you informed.
Dear Parents and Carers
As you are aware, Gisborne Secondary College was advised of a reported case of coronavirus (COVID-19) and was closed for 24 hours from late last night as a precautionary measure.
This case has been reported to the Department of Education and Training (DET), and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is currently undertaking further investigation.
The school will now remain closed from close of business today for a further 48 hours.
The school will be closed to all students, staff and members of the community.
This means that even the following categories of students are not able to attend school, until I advise you differently:
• students in years 11 and 12
• students in Year 10 for VCE or VCAL classes
• students who require on-site supervision – including children whose parents cannot work from home and where no other arrangements can be made, vulnerable children and children with a disability. All staff will work from home during this time also.
While our school is closed, we are unable to provide remote learning.
While DHHS conducts further investigation, all students are asked to stay at home until further advice is provided.
At this stage students do not need to seek testing unless you develop symptoms.
